Streets and neighborhood

The cobblestone streets, colonial houses, fountains and plazas of San Miguel de Allende are a big part of what makes visitors return here again and again.

A walk through these narrow quiet streets is almost like going back in time, to an era we find ourselves inexorably attracted to. Every corner of this place has been witness to moments of import in Mexican history, and every street is a reminder of the past with tall colonial gates, niches, crosses, cantera stone arches, elaborate windows and coats of arms.

Homes with expansive courtyards, grand halls and boastful fountains are proof of the past riches of city residents: eighteenth-century property, industry and business owners.

Today, we admire San Miguel's peservation of its architectural heritage, its sublime taste and style and the efforts undertaken to keep these buildings and streets in such excellent condition, so that the people and visitors of San Miguel may continue to enjoy them.
