House number 34 on Calle de los Insurgentes once belonged to General Juan José Pastor Marmolejo, who fought late in the War of Independance alongside General Anastasio Bustamante. With his children −as officers− he organized an army corps in San Miguel de Allende and played a central role in the defense of national territory against the U.S. invasion, fighting brilliantly in the Battle of Angostura.
