Calle Mesones

House number 14 was the April 29, 1906 birthplace of tenor Pedro Vargas. Vargas began singing in the parish church choir and later moved to the capital. There, he met tenor and composer Mario Talavera, who was his guide and protector. He was the official voice of the compositions of Agustin Lara.

On the corner of Calle Relox we find Mesón de San Ignacio, a late eighteenth century construction which is now a private home
.
On this same street is the house where General Mariano Escobedo stayed after the War of Reform. General Escobedo led the Mexican army that defeated Maximilian.
