This building, the "House of the Conspirators,” is set to one side of the Jardín Principal, or main square. It belonged to Domingo de Allende, brother of Ignacio Allende. Here, insurgents secretly met to plan the rebellion against the colonial government. Under the guise of holding dances and other social gatherings, over thirty people met in the basements, organizing the independence movement.
The façade, on Calle de Reloj, has a commemorative plaque that reads: "In the mezzanine of this house, with the pretext of dances to be held in the hall, Ignacio Allende and others involved met to discuss the appropriate means to achieve national independence." Today, this home is private property. |
